Anti-Ragging Committee

Academic Year 2022-23

As per the UGC notification in regard to prevention and prohibition of ragging in Higher Education Institutions, the College has constituted the Anti-Ragging Committee to prohibit, prevent and eliminate ragging on the College campus.

University Grants Commission Act, 1956, the UGC notified “Regulations on Curbing the Menace f Ragging in Higher Education Institutions, 2009. No.F.1-16/2007(CPP-II) April, 2009 – View 

Meaning of ragging:

Ragging is a practice in colleges, hostels and other educational institutes where the senior or an influential person tends to demoralize and defame the juniors through the means of verbal or physical abuse and harassment.

It means that the ragging consists of one or more of any of the following acts:

  1. Any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written, or by an act, which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other
  2. Indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activities by any student or students which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship, physical or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in any fresher or any other
  3. Asking any student to do any act which such student will not in the ordinary course do and which has the effect of causing or generating a sense of shame, or torment or embarrassment so as to adversely affect the physique or psyche of such fresher or any other
  4. Any act by a senior student that prevents, disrupts or disturbs the regular academic activity of any other student in the college premises.
  5. Exploiting the services of a fresher or any other student for completing the academic tasks assigned to an individual or a group of
  6. Any act of financial extortion or forceful expenditure burden put on a fresher or any other student by students
  7. Any act of physical abuse including all variants of it: sexual abuse, homosexual assaults, stripping, forcing obscene and lewd acts, gestures, causing bodily harm or any other danger to health or person;
  8. Any act or abuse by spoken words, emails, post, public insults which would also include deriving perverted pleasure, vicarious or sadistic thrill from actively or passively participating in the discomfiture to fresher or any other
  9. Any act that affects the mental health and self-confidence of a fresher or any other student with or without an intent to derive a sadistic pleasure or showing of power, authority or superiority by a student over any
  10. Any act of physical or mental abuse (including bullying and exclusion) targeted at another student (fresher or otherwise) on the ground of color, race, religion, caste, ethnicity, gender (including transgender), sexual orientation, appearance, nationality, regional origins, linguistic identity, place of birth, place of residence or economic background.

The composition of the Anti-Ragging Committee shall be as follows:

1)      The Principal as Chairperson

2)      2-4 faculty members (who will also function as the Anti-Ragging Squad)

3)      1 parent from the Executive Committee of the Parent Teacher Association

4)      One non-teaching staff member

5)      Representative of Police Administration

6)      Representative from the Media

7)     2-3 Student representatives

The constitution of the Anti-Ragging Committee and the Anti-Ragging Squad for every Academic year will be shown separately on the website.

Administrative Action in the Event of Ragging:

The College will punish a student found guilty of ragging after following the procedure and in the manner prescribed here in under:

The Anti-Ragging Committee of the College shall take an appropriate decision in regard to punishment or otherwise, depending on the facts of each incident of ragging, and the nature and gravity of the incident of ragging established in the recommendations of the Anti-Ragging Squad. The Anti-Ragging Committee may, depending on the nature and gravity of the guilt established by the Anti-Ragging Squad, award, to those found guilty, one or more of the following punishments, namely

  1. a) Suspension from attending classes and academic privileges.
    b) Withholding/ withdrawing scholarship/ fellowship and other benefits.
    c) Debarring from appearing in any test/ examination or other evaluation process.
    d) Cancellation of admission.

Where the persons committing or abetting the act of ragging are not identified, the College will resort to collective punishment.

Ragging is totally banned in the College and anyone found guilty of ragging and/or abetting ragging is liable to be punished, as it is a criminal offence.
